IMPORTANT UPDATE

On June 18th, Marion was struck by a powerful rain and windstorm that caused significant damage across the entire Marion Cemetery. Dozens of very large trees, one of which was estimated to be close to 400 years old, were uprooted or broken.  Many headstones were impacted and debris covered our historic grounds, blocking several of the drives.

Due to the extent of the damage, we were forced to close the cemetery for 15 days to ensure the safety of the public as well as the contractors and staff working on cleanup. We were finally able to reopen on July 3rd. However, cleanup efforts extended beyond that date, with our tree contractor working through July 10th to remove dangerous and fallen trees.

So far, the cost of cleanup and restoration has been over $90,000.  This has placed an unexpected financial burden on the Marion Cemetery Association, especially with insurance not covering any of the cleanup costs.

As a non-profit organization, we rely on community support to preserve this sacred space.  We are now asking for your help. If you are able, please consider making a donation to assist with storm recovery efforts. Every contribution—large or small—makes a difference in helping us restore and maintain the cemetery grounds for generations to come.

Donations may be made by check or online at our Donate page.

We thank you for your continued support and dedication to preserving Marion Cemetery’s history and beauty.

– Angie Yazel, Superintendent
